DONATIONS

The Deadline Dames are donating a basket of goodies. See the list below for items included in the basket.

Item 1 from Rachel Vincent

Copies of her novels Prey and My Soul To Take

BIO: Rachel Vincent is the author of the Shifters series, about a werecat named Faythe Sanders, who is learning to define her own role in her family and fighting to claim a place in her Pride.

Rachel’s young adult debut, My Soul to Take, will hit the shelves on August 1, 2009. My Soul to Take is the first in the Soul Screamers series, about a teenage bean sidhe (banshee) trying to balance a normal high school experience with the terrifying, hidden world she’s just discovered.

A recent transplant into the deep south, Rachel Vincent has a BA in English and an overactive imagination, and consistently finds the latter to be more practical. She shares her workspace with two black cats (Kaci and Nyx) and her # 1 fan. Rachel is older than she looks-seriously-and younger than she feels, but remains convinced that for every day she spends writing, one more day will be added to her lifespan.

Item 2 from Jenna Black

Copy of her novel, The Devil's Due

BIO: Jenna Black is your typical writer. Which means she's an "experience junkie." She got her BA in physical anthropology and French from Duke University.

Once upon a time, she dreamed she would be the next Jane Goodall, camping in the bush making fabulous discoveries about primate behavior. Then, during her senior year at Duke, she did some actual research in the field and made this shocking discovery: primates spend something like 80% of their time doing such exciting things as sleeping and eating. Concluding that this discovery was her life's work in the field of primatology, she then moved on to such varied pastimes as grooming dogs and writing technical documentation. Among her other experiences...

  • Ballroom dancing.

  • Traveling all seven continents. Yes, even Antarctica.

  • Becoming a Life Master in Bridge.

  • Singing in a barbershop chorus.

Read the true story of Jenna's first trip out of the country by herself at the age of 16: Jenna's Zaire Adventure. And remember, insanity is a good thing for a writer. She's also a proud member of the Heart of Carolina Romance Writers, and would love for her readers to support her fellow authors! Jenna is represented by Miriam Kriss, of the Irene Goodman Literary Agency.

Item 3 from Jackie Kessler

Copy of her novel, Black and White

BIO: Some kids want to grow up to be doctors, or movie stars, or political assassins. Me, I wanted to draw comic books. Not Archie comics, either—superhero comic books. Maybe it was all the heavily muscled guys in spandex…

Around the time I was 15, I realized that as much as I enjoyed drawing (note that I’m saying nothing about the quality of those pics), it was a lot of fun putting words in the characters’ mouths. I didn’t know the term “fanfic” back then, but I started writing stories about the X-Men, Alpha Flight, and the Teen Titans. Didn’t do anything with those stories, other than horrify my mother. She asked why I couldn’t write nice stories, you know, about bunnies. Nope—me, I wanted to write about power. About magic. About hot guys in spandex. And about beating those guys bloody and senseless. (In retrospect, maybe I really did want to horrify my mother. Hey, not my fault. When I was a kid, I busted her doodling on the cover of New Teen Titans #6.  Argh!)  So maybe it’s ironic that the book I wound up writing had nothing to do with overly muscled men and everything to do with scantily clad women. (Well, temporarily scantily clad.) Oh, right, and demons.

Previously, I was the fantasy editor for Wild Child Publishing. Along with working with terrific authors and editors, I’d been fortunate enough to interview a number of fabulous people for WCP, including Margaret Weis (I think Raistlin was my first crush). In case you’re wondering, I live in Upstate New York, along with my Loving Husband and two Precious Little Tax Deductions, two cats, and about 9,000 comics. (But actually, that number is now closer to 8,000, thanks to a flooded basement. Alas!)

Item 4 from Devon Monk

Copies of her novels, Magic to the Bone & Magic in the Blood,

plus a pair of fingerless gloves

(see description here: http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer06/PATTfetching.html)

BIO: Devon has sold over fifty short stories to fantasy, science fiction, horror, humor, and young adult magazines and anthologies. Her stories have been published in five countries and included in a Year's Best Fantasy collection. She recently turned her attention to writing novels. Her novel, MAGIC TO THE BONE, the first in her urban fantasy series was released in November 2008. Her novel Magic in the Blood was released May 2009.

Item 5 from Rinda Elliott

A WRITE SNARK deadline Mug with coaster and a copy of Surreal Magazine with her short story, "Retribution"

Bio: Rinda Elliott loves unusual stories and she credits growing up in a family of curious life-lovers who moved all over the country. Books and movies full of fantasy, science fiction and horror kept them amused, especially in some of the stranger places. For years, Rinda tried to separate her darker side with her humorous and romantic one. She published short fiction, but things really started happening when she gave in and mixed it up. When not lost in fiction, she loves making wine, collecting music, gaming and spending time with her husband and two children.

Item 6 from Keri Arthur

Audio book of The Darkest Kiss

BIO: I'm a born and bred Melbourne (Australia) gal, and grew up sharing my life with dragons, elves, vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters and the occasional talking horse. Which worried my family to no end. Of course, now that I'm actually make a living sharing my life with the abovementioned creatures, they no longer contemplate calling the men with the little white coat. When not at my keyboard, I can be found in front of the TV, or taking my two dogs for a walk.

Item 7 from Karen Mahoney

Copy of The Eternal Kiss (YA Vampire Anthology)

with her short story, "Falling to Ash"

BIO: British writer of contemporary/urban fantasy. I am represented by Miriam Kriss of the Irene Goodman Literary Agency in New York.

In my varied career I've been a professional Tarot reader, a college counselor, a dating agency consultant and a bookseller. Ever since I was six years old what I really wanted to be was Wonder Woman, but have instead settled for being a writer!

My first YA novel, THE IRON WITCH, is currently making the rounds of US publishing houses. I have another manuscript, DAUGHTER OF LIES, complete and all ready to go! I've just finished my third novel, BEAUTIFUL GHOSTS.

Item 8 from Toni Andrews

Copy of her novel, Cry Mercy

BIO: Toni Andrews likes to say it's easier to list the jobs she hasn't tried. From lifeguard to lounge singer, bartender to bill collector, door-to-door salesperson to corporate business analyst--Toni has been there and done that. Then, she decided that what she really wanted to be was a writer. After fifteen years in Southern California and seven in Miami, Toni has recently returned to the lakeside cottage in Connecticut where she spent her childhood summers, where she writes full time. Toni also writes romance novels under the pen name Virginia Reede.
